Season Results

The collegiate racing season was highly succesful this year.  Racing wrapped up this past weekend in Pullman, Washington and Moscow, Idaho.  We had many individual wins throughout the course of the season and many more top ten placements.  Overall, we finished fifth in the conference and placed second for nationals qualification in Division I, which means we'll be sending six riders to represent the team at collegiate road nationals in Fort Collins, Colorado May 9-11.  This should be a great opportunity to showcase the team's talent on the national level and potentially place very well in the nationals road race and criterium.

Mid-Season Update

adam.JPG Wednesday, 16 April 08 - 11:56 AM (GMT -08:00)
By Adam Edgerton in 2007-2008

So far this season has been very successful.  After four weekends of racing, we have multiple wins in the Men's A, Women's A, Men's B and Women's B fields, and high placements in the other fields as well.  In overall standings, we're doing very well in the Men's A field, with Peter Baker in 2nd overall, and Kennett Peterson, David Kuhns, and Orion Berryman following closely behind in 6th, 7th, and 8th respectively.

In overall team conference standings, we're sitting 5th out of 16 teams, but we're  still within reach of second place with some good performances in the remaining part of the season.  The bad news there is that we're not making the trip to Montana this year.  Some of the racers will be headed south to Sea Otter, while the rest thought that leaving Thursday and returning Monday is too much of a commitment in the middle of the term.  Not to mention the absurdly high travel costs for a 1400 mile weekend trip.  Not going to Montana will likely put us out of contention for placing in the top 3 in the conference, but it's still a possibility given that points are doubled for conference championships.

As far as nationals qualification, we're doing very well.  We're currently first in Division I for qualifying for nationals, and we're preliminarily planning on sending 6 or 7 riders to represent the team at nationals, which is the most we've sent in a long time.

See all the results from the season so far here.

Host Race Follow-Up

By Adam Edgerton in 2007-2008

We partnered with Oregon State University's cycling team to host a collegiate omnium March 22nd and 23rd.  The UO Team is hosted the road race and team time trial just west of Eugene on March 22nd.

The races were a great success.  We had 139 racers show up, and after the first weekend of collegiate racing, Oregon holds on to 2nd place in the conference by a single point (644 to OSU's 643).  Check out the image gallery for some pictures from the weekend.

See below for the race details.

A rough week for the team

adam.JPG Tuesday, 11 March 08 - 01:57 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Adam Edgerton in 2007-2008

The team has been hit hard with some early season injuries this year.  Two of our women crashed on two separate descents last week, and I broke my hand in my crash at the first Banana Belt race.  Regardless, it looks like we'll all be back on our bikes in the relatively near future.

In other news, the team has had continued success in early-season racing prior to the start of the collegiate season.  We're having consistent top 10 finishes in all categories,  and Kennett is burning up the pavement and just got his upgrade from cat 3 to cat 2.  Look out!

Our Sponsor Photographer, David Brannen, just put up photos from Cherry Pie on his website.  Check it out!

Also, check out a few new photos in the image gallery of the UO team in action during yesterday's Cherry Pie race up near Corvallis.  We had team members win the men's Pro-1-2 race, as well as the men's 3 race, and strong placement throughout many of the other fields as well.

Late January Update

adam.JPG Thursday, 24 January 08 - 11:49 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Adam Edgerton in 2007-2008

It's been a busy first three weeks back at school.  Lots of training, racing skills prep, and  exciting times getting ready for the early OBRA season in February and the collegiate season beginning in March.  In the near future we'll be hosting a combined group ride with the OSU cycling team, and hopefully before we get to racing season we can find some good weather to get in a team photo shoot with photographer David Brannen, who has agreed to help us out.

Oh, and the jerseys just got here, and they look sharp!

Training Camp Follow-Up

adam.JPG Friday, 14 December 07 - 11:52 AM (GMT -08:00)
By Adam Edgerton in 2007-2008

Our winter training camp was a success.  We covered approximately 250 miles in 5 days of riding, and the increasing skills and experience of our new cyclists is showing.  We covered some racing tactics that will come in handy in the spring, as well as techniques for team time trials.  Some of our longer rides included scouting trips for potential race courses, and it looks like we've got a course nailed down assuming we can successfully get a road permit.  Some of the highlights of the week include dead-end roads, unexpected steep climbs, gravel roads, flats, the flying squirrel position, and a horse that we're pretty sure was spying on us for Kennett.  The weather cooperated amazingly well, and we all ate a lot of food (including 15,000 calories of pancakes).  Next up is the rest of winter break, which should provide lots of good training opportunities.  Happy Holidays!

Winter Training Camp

adam.JPG Friday, 07 December 07 - 11:21 AM (GMT -08:00)
By Adam Edgerton in 2007-2008

Saturday, December 8th, we'll be starting our winter training camp.  This will be the third year in a row we've held the camp the week after fall term finals, so it looks like we've managed to turn it into an annual event.  During the camp, we'll eat a lot of tasty food, ride our bikes in the rain, and hopefully have some good team bonding.  We'll be working on criterium and cornering skills,  team time trialing, road racing tactics, and last (but certainly not least) some basic bike repair and maintance skills.  This training camp is always a good way for the experienced cyclists on the team to pass on knowledge to some of the newer riders - should be a blast!
